Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has given a befitting reply to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s statement regarding Lok Sabha delimitation. Tharoor argued that the proposal to expand seats in the boundaries would not be more beneficial for the southern states than the North Indian states. Taking aim at the Andhra CM, the Congress MP gave the example of increase in his and his driver’s salary and asked the question, “Are you not concerned about the states of South India?”

Shashi Tharoor posted on social media platform X and wrote, ‘Naidu ji, let’s do an experiment. Suppose your salary is Rs 2 lakh, while your driver’s salary is Rs 20 thousand. You announce 50 percent increase for everyone, in such a situation your salary will be Rs 3 lakh and that of the driver will be Rs 30 thousand. This increase in percentage and ratio is the same, but wouldn’t you be in a much better position as a driver than you were before? ‘
Question asked to Naidu
He further wrote, ‘It is because of this mathematics of delimitation that the Chief Ministers of the southern states are worried. Tharoor asked Naidu a question, don’t you think that today the number of Lok Sabha MPs in Uttar Pradesh is 80 and Kerala is 20, if tomorrow it becomes 120 versus 30, will there be any difference? The Congress MP has further said, ‘A small proportional difference and a huge difference in political weight. 90 more MPs from UP compared to 10 more MPs from Kerala. Doesn’t it make any difference to you? Don’t forget the political existence of the southern states.

What did Naidu say?
This controversy begins with Naidu’s statement regarding delimitation. In an interview given to ET, he had said about delimitation that this will increase at least 50 percent Lok Sabha seats in all the states. The Congress MP has targeted this statement of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and explained its mathematics by giving him the example of his driver’s salary.
