Netanyahu’s absence at US-Iran deal table revives 107-year-old genie of Versailles Palace

US Iran Peace Deal: As soon as the war started, the world thought that Iran would not be able to survive for long, but as time passed, the picture became completely opposite. Iran not only stood strong on the battlefield, but also established itself as a powerful player on the diplomacy front. It proved that despite limited resources, if the strategy is long-term, self-reliant defense capability is strong and political will is strong, then even the biggest power can be brought to the negotiating table.

Iran’s real strength was not its missiles, but its clear message – we will tolerate sanctions, attacks, but will not compromise our sovereignty and strategic identity. This was the reason that ultimately America also had to choose the path of negotiations and agree on a peace agreement. This agreement took place in the historic Palace of Versailles in France, which in itself has been a witness to history. The same Versailles, where harsh and humiliating conditions were imposed on Germany after the First World War 107 years ago, now became the stage of a new global equation.

Netanyahu’s absence from the deal table

US President Donald Trump signed this deal sitting in the same palace, but this time the picture was different – here no one side was a complete winner or loser, but an attempt at balance was visible. However, Israel’s absence in this entire process raised many big questions. Especially when Israel’s role was considered important at the beginning of the war, but it did not find a place in the final agreement. The history of Versailles becomes even more important in this context.

The Versailles Treaty of 1919 had imposed such conditions on Germany, which gave rise to a feeling of humiliation and revenge there. Loss of land, restrictions on the army, economic penalties, all this shook Germany from within and this environment later became the reason for the rise of Adolf Hitler. History is witness to the fact that that treaty laid the foundation not for peace but for the second world war. This is the reason why today when another big deal has been made in Versailles, it is natural to raise the question whether a similar imbalance this time too will give rise to new tensions in the future.

signs of changing circumstances

If seen from the current perspective, this agreement is coming out as a psychological victory for Iran. For Israel, which has always looked for a decisive victory, there appears to be little to be gained and much to be lost in this deal. With the lifting of economic sanctions, Iran can further strengthen its military and technological capabilities, its nuclear program has not been completely ended, and there have been no clear limits on its regional influence. Along with this, America’s stance shifting from military action to diplomacy indicates that the circumstances have changed.

The most interesting thing is that the same America which started the war with Israel has now made a compromise without it. This change is not just a deal, but an indication of the changing equations in global politics. If due to this there is a rift in the relations between America and Israel, then its impact will not be limited only to the Middle East, but the entire world may enter a new unstable period. This is the reason why this agreement is being considered not only as the end of a war, but also as the beginning of a bigger geopolitical story in the future.
