JD Vance criticized Pakistan for taking credit for the deal between Iran and America, said – ‘Delay in issuing MoU because…’

Pakistan is once again in the news regarding the peace agreement between America and Iran, but this time the reason is not praise but criticism. US Vice President JD Vance said in a podcast that one of the reasons for the delay in releasing full details of the US-Iran agreement (MoU) was the level of press freedom in Pakistan and Qatar. His statement has raised new questions on Pakistan’s media freedom and democratic system.

What did JD Vance say?

In the ‘Interesting Times with Ross Douthat’ podcast, JD Vance said that the US wanted to release the full text of the agreement soon, but the systems of Pakistan and Qatar do not have the same press freedom rules as the US. He said that there is no expectation that the public will read the document of any agreement, examine it and analyze it for themselves.

What is America’s First Amendment?

Vance said that the First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees citizens freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of religion. There is no such constitutional protection in Pakistan, so the level of transparency is different there.

Full text of the agreement released after two days

US President Donald Trump announced the US-Iran interim peace agreement on June 15, but its full document was released two days later. This delay was raised by Democrat leaders and many experts. Some people believed that the details of the agreement were being withheld because of major concessions being given to Iran.

Questions on Pakistan regarding press freedom

After JD Vance’s comments, the issue of press freedom in Pakistan has again come into discussion. Pakistan ranks 153rd among 180 countries in the World Press Freedom Index. Pakistan has long been counted among the challenging countries for journalists and after the 27th constitutional amendment passed in 2025, concerns about press freedom have increased further.

Claim of signing ceremony in Switzerland also turned out to be wrong

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had claimed that the official signing ceremony of the US-Iran agreement will be held in Switzerland on June 19. However, later Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian signed the agreement through digital medium. After this, Iran’s Foreign Ministry also made it clear that no ceremony will take place in Switzerland. After this, Shahbaz Sharif removed the Switzerland part from his social media post and also canceled his tour.

Consensus also reached on Iran’s uranium reserves

In the podcast, JD Vance said that under the 14-point agreement, Iran has agreed to reduce its enriched uranium. In return he will get financial relief. Vance said this is a major achievement for the Trump administration because the Obama administration’s 2015 agreement allowed Iran to keep uranium reserves, while the new agreement calls for eliminating them.

Answer given on the help of 300 billion dollars also

There was also discussion regarding the agreement that America will give 300 billion dollars for the reconstruction of Iran. On this, JD Vance said that “not even a single dollar” of America will go to Iran. He said that if Iran makes major changes in its country, it can get economic benefits from investment from other countries, but American taxpayers’ money will not be used in this.
