6 billion dollars in exchange for inspection of Iran’s nuclear sites! What is America’s demand from the first round of peace talks?

After the interim peace agreement between America and Iran last week, now the first major round of talks between the two countries is going to begin. US Vice President JD Vance is reaching Switzerland, where issues like nuclear program, Iranian money stuck due to sanctions and regional tensions will be discussed in the talks to be held on Sunday. According to reports, the US wants the talks to start with inspection of Iran’s nuclear sites, while in return it is ready to give Iran access to some of its frozen funds.

America wants to investigate nuclear sites
According to the report, America is trying to ensure that the outcome of the first round of talks is that Iran allows United Nations (UN) inspectors to visit its nuclear sites. These are the same sites which have been previously attacked by America and Israel. American officials believe that the inspection will make it clear what condition Iran’s nuclear program is in and will create an environment of trust for future talks.

Washington ready to release 6 billion dollars in return
In exchange for this step, America is considering providing some part of its frozen funds to Iran. It can start with an account of about 6 billion dollars kept in Qatar. According to the report, this amount will be used for the purchase of things related to human needs, such as food items and other essential items.

There is a chance of negotiation for 60 days
Under the interim peace agreement between US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian, both the countries have got 60 days in which talks will be held towards a permanent solution. However, this is just the beginning and the path to end the decades-old tension is still considered to be long.

JD Vance said – Creating a framework for talks is the first priority
Before leaving for Switzerland, JD Vance said that he would stay there only for a day or two. He expressed hope that some progress could be made on the nuclear issue and matters related to the Israel-Lebanon conflict. According to Vance, the main objective of the first round is to create a solid framework for further talks.

Pakistan is also playing the role of mediator
Pakistan is also playing an important role in this dialogue. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir are also reaching Bergenstock, Switzerland. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has said that it will continue to cooperate in implementing the agreements between America and Iran.

Big faces included in Iranian delegation
From Iran’s side, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati are taking part in the talks. The presence of these leaders is being considered a sign that Tehran is also taking the talks seriously. American intelligence reports have expressed apprehension that the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could become an obstacle to this peace process. According to the report, there is domestic political pressure on Netanyahu to maintain a tough stance against Hezbollah in Lebanon. In such a situation, if Israel continues military action, the US-Iran talks may be affected.

Tension continues on the Strait of Hormuz
However, after the interim agreement, the Strait of Hormuz was reopened and the US also lifted its naval blockade on Iranian ports, but the tension has not completely ended. Iran later warned that if Israeli attacks in Lebanon continued and America did not live up to its promises, it could take strict measures again.

Trump’s big statement
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has said that no toll will be imposed on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz during the 60-day negotiation period. However, he also warned that if a final agreement could not be reached between the US and Iran, then steps like imposing tariffs could be considered in the future.

What is the biggest deal of the first round?
The most important formula for the first round of talks is currently believed to be this – Iran should allow inspection of its nuclear sites and in return America should restore its access to frozen funds worth $6 billion. If a consensus is reached on this issue, it can prove to be the first big step towards restoring trust between the two countries.
