The main reason behind this is light. Black color absorbs light instead of reflecting it. This is the reason why in a dark or low-light environment a black car blends into the surrounding environment. On the other hand, white, yellow or light colored cars reflect more light, making them easily visible from a distance.
This problem increases further at night. If there is not enough light on the road, it may take more time for other drivers to recognize the black car. Sometimes even a second or two is very important to avoid an accident. When a vehicle appears late, the driver in front has less time to apply brakes or change direction, which increases the risk of an accident.
Which colors are safer?
Not only black, but gray and silver colored cars are also considered high risk. The reason for this is that these colors often mix with the colors of the road, fog and clouds. Whereas colors like white, yellow, orange and gold are considered safer because they are clearly visible in almost every weather and lighting condition. This is the reason why bright colors are used in school buses, vehicles used in construction work and many emergency services.
