Iran rejected US Vice President JD Vance’s claim that Tehran has agreed to allow access for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections. Vance had said that perhaps this is the biggest thing about which we Americans are most excited.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said Iran’s negotiations with the IAEA will proceed in accordance with Iran’s obligations under security agreements and in accordance with resolutions passed by parliament and decisions of the Supreme National Security Council, CNN quoted IRNA as saying.
Iran limited coordination with IAEA
A law passed by Iran’s parliament last year limited cooperation with the IAEA and halted routine inspections. However, according to IRNA, relations with the UN nuclear monitoring body were not completely severed. This law still allows IAEA officials access to active nuclear sites, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, but only on a ‘case-by-case basis.’
What did Trump say on Vance’s claim?
US President Donald Trump on Monday supported Vance’s claim, saying Iran would agree to weapons inspections to ensure ‘nuclear integrity’. “Everyone is fully aware that Iran will agree to major weapons inspections to ensure future nuclear integrity,” he said in a post on Truth Social.
JD Vance told four things after the meeting
Vance described the talks between the two countries in Switzerland on Monday as a “very good day” and outlined four key priorities as technical discussions are expected to continue in the coming days.
He said that first of all, he wanted to create a system to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Vance told reporters that we wanted to make sure that we had actually established a coordination system for demining operations and business restoration. According to CNN, the US Vice President sought to establish a system for ceasefire in the region, aimed at preventing tensions in Lebanon.

Third, Vance reiterated his claim that Iran will allow IAEA nuclear inspectors to visit. He said the two sides have established a process to continue technical talks, which will continue after the chief negotiators depart Switzerland later in the day.
“We have laid the foundation – we have not built the house – but we have laid a successful foundation for a good situation for the American people,” the vice president said as he prepared to depart Switzerland, according to CNN.
The US Vice President rejected suggestions that talks with Iran were disrupted after President Donald Trump issued a fresh threat of attack. Vance said, ‘No, he did not disrupt the system.’
