US Iran Peace Deal: Taking a big step towards reducing the long-running tension in the Middle East, America has started providing initial relief after the interim peace agreement with Iran. After the first talks, America has relaxed the sanctions imposed on Iran for 60 days, so that Tehran can get economic relief. However, along with this relief, a strict warning has also been given. US President Donald Trump has clearly said that if Iran does not follow the terms of the agreement, America will “do what it has to do.” That is, this signal is also clear that this relief is completely attached to the conditions and the environment of trust is still incomplete.
US Vice President JD Vance described the talks held in Switzerland as positive and said that this has laid a strong foundation for a permanent peace agreement. But on the other hand, Iran has not fully accepted America’s claims. Iran has made it clear that it has not started any new talks on its nuclear program nor has it agreed to recall the inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Warning with peace agreement
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghei, clarifying the situation further, said that there has been no meeting with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in Switzerland and currently Iran is not planning to allow inspection of its nuclear sites. It is clear from this that there is still a deep gap between the two countries on the nuclear issue. The role of mediator countries like Pakistan and Qatar has also been important in this entire process. According to these countries, during the talks held at the Burgenstock resort in Switzerland, both sides have agreed to prepare a roadmap for a permanent agreement within 60 days.
This roadmap is being considered an important step towards taking forward the interim agreement reached last week. Under the agreement, both sides have agreed on some important points to reduce regional tension. These include creating a mechanism to end the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Apart from this, a direct communication line has also been established to ensure the safety of merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This strait is very important for the global oil supply, which was disrupted by Iran during the war.
To provide relief on the economic front, the US has announced relaxation in sanctions till August 21, allowing Iran to sell oil and related products and receive payments. This step is being considered a big relief for Iran’s economy. Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Ali Bahrini, also spoke of “good progress” in the talks.
Iran exempted for two months
He said that in the coming days, two separate working groups will be formed, which will focus on the removal of sanctions on the one hand and Iran’s nuclear activities on the other. However, he also made it clear that before any concrete talks on the nuclear issue, it would be necessary to fully implement all parts of the preliminary agreement. Along with this, the issue of Lebanon also remains an important part of this agreement.
Iran says the deal includes the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon, while Israel is still talking about maintaining a security zone in southern Lebanon and indicating continued action to eliminate potential threats. Overall, this agreement is definitely a big start, but there are still many complex issues on which agreement is yet to be reached. Signs like temporary easing of sanctions, start of diplomatic talks and reduction in regional tensions are positive, but issues like nuclear programme, Israel-Lebanon conflict and mutual distrust make it clear that the road to lasting peace is still long and challenging.
