Brahmos Demand: There was a time when India was ahead in importing arms from all the countries of the world, but now the picture is changing. Under the government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Self-reliant India’ campaign, the country has now emerged as the world’s largest defense exporter.
According to the latest data released by the Defense Ministry, India’s defense exports reached a record all-time high of Rs 38424 crore in the financial year 2025-26, which is 62.66% more than last year’s Rs 23622 crore. The demand for India’s indigenous equipment is increasing rapidly in the world. One of these is BrahMos supersonic cruise missile.
The world went crazy about BrahMos.
After the brilliant performance in ‘Operation Sindoor’, the status of BrahMos missile has increased manifold. Due to this, its demand has also increased manifold at the global level. There are about 14 countries in the world which have expressed their desire to buy BrahMos from India.
BrahMos has been developed jointly by India and Russia, but seeing the way it defeated Pakistan in ‘Operation Sindoor’, now Russia has also expressed its desire to include it in its army. India has also signed a big deal of $375 with Philippines regarding this. After Philippines, Vietnam has also signed a big BrahMos deal with India worth about 629 million dollars (about Rs 12500 crore). After Vietnam, now Indonesia has also decided to buy it.
United Arab Emirates also came forward
According to media reports, to further strengthen its army, the United Arab Emirates has also expressed its desire to purchase air defense systems like Akashtir and BrahMos from India. Even though the talks are still in the initial stage, work on it is going on at a rapid pace. It is being told that countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Oman, Chile, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Egypt are also preparing to include BrahMos in their country’s army.
What is special in BrahMos?
BrahMos has been jointly developed by India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Russia. It is counted among the world’s fastest operational supersonic cruise missiles. It flies at a speed of 2.8 to 3 Mach (almost times faster than the speed of sound). Its speed is 3700 kilometers per hour. This is the reason that if the radar or air defense system of the enemy country detects it, it does its job. It has the ability to attack from land, air, sea surface and even from submarines under the sea.
