Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to Seychelles, held an important delegation level meeting with its President Patrick Herminie on Sunday (28 June 2026). During this, many important issues were discussed between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi said that both India and Seychelles believe that the Indian Ocean is their common home. Its security, stability and prosperity is the shared responsibility of both the countries.
Prime Minister Modi said that India’s vision is to make the Indian Ocean an ocean of opportunities. He said that this should be an area where economic development is ensured along with maritime security. He stressed that the basis of partnership should not be the size of a country, but mutual respect and trust. This is the real idea of India’s Ocean Vision

Defense and security of Seychelles are interconnected – Prime Minister Modi
Prime Minister Modi clearly said that the defense and security of India and Seychelles are linked to each other. He told that both the countries also discussed in detail on further strengthening the economic cooperation. Besides, it was also agreed to explore new opportunities and increase connectivity between industries in the coming times. PM Modi also said that India will share its successful experience of digital public infrastructure with Seychelles. President Patrick Hermini also said that maritime security in the Indian Ocean region is a very important part of the relations between India and Seychelles. Both countries reiterated their commitment to work together against piracy, drug trafficking, illegal fishing and cross-border crimes.
19 agreements signed between India and Seychelles
During this meeting, a total of 19 agreements and new initiatives were announced between India and Seychelles in various sectors like defence, digital payments, space, health, agriculture and education. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, these agreements include agreements related to extradition treaty, cooperation in peaceful use of space, implementation of UPI based digital payment system, EXIM Bank’s line of credit and preparation of a new national hospital. India announced to gift a Fast Patrol Vessel to Seychelles. Along with this, 10 utility vehicles and 5 laser radial class boats will also be handed over. Apart from this, information about completion of repair of Seychelles Coast Guard’s PS Zoroaster ship and upgradation of Dornier aircraft was also shared.
India announced to give many things to Seychelles
India also announced the donation of 6 ambulances, 500 metric tons of rice and 8,500 metric tons of cement to Seychelles. This help is being considered a big step towards deepening the strong relations between the two countries. A commemorative logo was also launched to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. This is a symbol of the long standing trust and friendship between the two countries.
Big work to promote digital payments
To promote digital payments, an agreement was signed between National Payment Corporation of India, International Payments Limited and Central Bank of Seychelles. Through this, UPI based payments will be promoted in Seychelles. Big steps were also taken in the health sector. An agreement was signed between HLL Life Care and the Ministry of Health of Seychelles to ensure the availability of Indian medicines under the Jan Aushadhi Scheme. Prime Minister Modi has reached Seychelles on a three-day visit. This visit is taking place at a time when Seychelles is celebrating 50 years of its independence. It is also the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles. Prime Minister Modi will attend the National Day celebrations of Seychelles as the chief guest.
