Union Cabinet Decisions: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved two such big infrastructure projects, which along with reducing the traffic problem of the national capital Delhi, will also make the road connectivity between Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh faster and better than before. The first major decision of the cabinet is for Delhi. The Cabinet has approved the construction of 8 km long six-lane Dwarka Tunnel at a cost of about Rs 6,970 crore.
This tunnel will be built from Shivmurti via Vasant Kunj to near Barapula. It will take approximately five years to complete the project. With the construction of this tunnel, the traffic pressure in the south-west part of Delhi will be reduced and the traffic between the airport as well as major areas will be more convenient.
In the Union Cabinet briefing, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “The first project is the 2-lane Dwarka Tunnel. It will prove to be very beneficial for Delhi. This 8 kilometer long tunnel will fulfill an old demand.
Important decisions of the Central Cabinet
The second big decision is for Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The Cabinet has approved a 242 km long four-lane highway from Kanpur to Kabrai. The cost of this project will be Rs 7,145 crore and it is targeted to be completed in about two and a half years.
In future, this road will become a part of better road connectivity till Bhopal. The biggest benefit of this project will be seen in the form of huge reduction in travel time. At present, the journey from Kanpur to Kabrai is completed in about three and a half hours, but after the construction of the new four-lane road, the same distance can be covered in about one and a half hours.
Ashwini Vaishnav said, “The second project (which has been announced by the Central Government today) connects the Bundelkhand region of UP. It covers the stretch between Kanpur to Bhopal. The stretch that has been approved today is 242 km long from Kanpur to Kabrai.
There will be less pressure on traffic
This will not only provide relief to passengers, but is also expected to provide a big boost to goods transportation, trade and regional economic activities. Through these two projects, the central government’s focus is on improving urban traffic, strengthening the national highway network and providing fast, safe and better connectivity between different regions of the country.
