The vehicle of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel overturned near Sonamarg Tunnel in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir. A total of 6 soldiers have been injured in the accident. Who have been taken to CRPF camp for treatment.

PTI quoted officials as saying that a CRPF vehicle slipped off the road near Sonamarg tunnel on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in central Kashmir district. Six CRPF soldiers were injured in this accident. Officials said the injured soldiers were given first aid on the spot and later taken to the CRPF camp at Gund for further treatment.

On the other hand, CRPF has achieved a pleasant milestone. No soldier lost his life in the operations conducted in the first half of this year, this is the first time in many decades. CRPF Director General G.P. Singh said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that this milestone was achieved when continuous operations were conducted at a rapid pace in different areas where paramilitary forces were deployed.

What did the Director General of CRPF say?

Singh wrote, ‘The available data shows that for the first time in many decades, the CRPF did not suffer any casualties (loss of lives) during any operation in the period from January 1 to June 30, 2026, i.e. the first half of the year. He said that due to the end of Naxalism (the Center announced this in March), it has been the ninth consecutive month for the CRPF in which there has been no casualty during any operation. This is the first time in many decades that this has happened.

About 3.25 lakh soldiers deployed in CRPF

About 3.25 lakh soldiers are employed in CRPF and the force is responsible for many tasks related to internal security across the country. These include anti-Naxal operations, anti-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir and anti-insurgency operations in the northeastern states. The force was established in 1939 during British rule. Two years after independence, its name was changed to CRPF. PTI quoted government figures as saying that till now 2,270 soldiers and officers of the force have lost their lives in the line of duty.
