8th Pay Commission Updates: The 8th Pay Commission is currently at an important stage. For these, the decision will impact lakhs of central government employees, pensioners and their family members. In this sequence, the team of the Eighth Pay Commission is visiting different cities and meeting employee unions and organizations before submitting its report to the government. Now the team is preparing to go to Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha and Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal.
Where will the commission team go now?
The team headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai recently completed its tour of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Now on July 6-7, he will be on a visit to Bhubaneswar, where he will have a face-to-face meeting with Railway, Defense and other central employee unions. After Bhubaneswar, the team will visit Kolkata on 9th and 10th July. The final round of discussions will be held here with stakeholders from Eastern India.
Talks are also being held with ministries
The Eighth Pay Commission team is not only talking to employee unions but is also talking to various government departments and ministries so that an accurate assessment of the financial burden on the government can be made. There are still many departments, ministries and union territories which have not yet been able to upload the data related to salary, allowances and pension of employees, hence the Commission has also extended the date of data submission from 30th June to 31st July 2026.
The Commission is also appointing consultants to ensure that the report is absolutely accurate and there are no mistakes in it. Considering this pace of the Commission, it can be estimated that the draft of the final report will be prepared between August and December this year. After that the report will be submitted to the Finance Minister in the first six months of 2027 or before. It will be implemented only after it is discussed and approved by the cabinet.
