Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has made it clear that the team’s focus is not just on the current series but on preparing a strong team for the next T20 World Cup. Under this thinking, 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was given a chance to debut in international cricket.
Vaibhav’s debut was already decided
In the press conference before the third T20 in Nottingham, Sitanshu Kotak told that Vaibhav Suryavanshi was a part of the team’s plans from the beginning. He said that the young batsman did not need any special preparation before his debut, because the team management had full faith in his talent. According to Kotak, it was decided from the time he joined the team that Vaibhav would be given his debut.
Record made at the age of 15
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his international debut for India in the second T20 played in Manchester. At the age of 15 years and 99 days, he became India’s youngest international cricketer. Vaibhav, who was the highest run scorer in IPL 2026, could not play a big innings in his first international match. He scored 14 runs in 10 balls, which included two brilliant sixes.

The team is going through a period of change
Kotak admitted that the Indian team is currently going through a phase of change under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer. He also admitted that the team is feeling the absence of injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya. However, he says that in such times, giving opportunities to young players is important for the future.
