Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Mawlawi Ataullah Omari reached New Delhi on Tuesday (7 July 2026) on an official visit to India. His visit is being considered an important step towards strengthening relations between India and Afghanistan. On reaching India, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed him. He said in a post on social media platform
Randhir Jaiswal said in his message that Afghanistan’s Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Minister Mawlawi Ataullah Omari is welcomed on his arrival in New Delhi and looks forward to discussion on issues related to common interests of both the countries. According to the Afghanistan Embassy in India, Omari has also brought with him a delegation of officials from the Afghan Foreign Ministry. During this he will meet his Indian counterparts and representatives of the Indian business community. Issues related to increasing cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, investment and other important sectors will be discussed in the meetings.

India helps Afghanistan
This visit is taking place at a time when India is continuously providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. Recently, on June 17, India had sent a consignment of five tonnes of essential medicines to Afghanistan. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that this assistance reflects India’s commitment towards the welfare of the Afghan people and humanitarian assistance. Apart from this, on June 11, India also provided many important medical equipment to strengthen the health sector of Afghanistan. These included equipment related to newborn and child care, cardiograph machines, ventilators, patient monitoring equipment, special equipment related to surgery and other medical kits.
India’s stance regarding Afghanistan
India has once again made it clear that it is committed to promoting peace, stability and development in Afghanistan. India has been continuously supporting Afghanistan through humanitarian assistance, development projects and capacity building programmes. India had also reiterated its stand in the recent meeting held on Afghanistan in the United Nations Security Council. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvataneni Harish had said that relations between India and Afghanistan are centuries old and there is a historical and cultural connection between the two countries.
What did Randhir Jaiswal say?
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal also said that India’s stand has not changed and its main objective is to help the Afghan people. He said that India will continue to help Afghanistan through food security, health services, supply of medicines, education, scholarships and capacity building programs. India believes that stability and development in Afghanistan is important for the entire region. For this purpose, New Delhi is continuously working to increase cooperation in different fields and for the welfare of the Afghan people.

This visit of Mawlawi Ataullah Omari is being considered to give a new direction to the cooperation between the two countries in the areas related to agriculture, irrigation, investment and development.
