The US on Tuesday revoked with immediate effect the oil sanctions waiver given to Iran, under which US sanctions were not imposed on energy purchases from Iran. This step has been taken weeks after new attacks on Iran in response to attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and after the ceasefire was agreed upon under the MoU between the two countries.
The US Finance Ministry announced this decision on the same day the US military resumed attacks on Iran. The Donald Trump administration said that this action was taken with the aim of punishing Tehran for attacking three commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

What did America say on withdrawing the license from Iran?
Announcing the cancellation of Iran’s licenses, a US official said, ‘As President Trump and the administration have repeatedly reiterated, the agreement implemented with Iran is entirely performance-based. Iran will benefit from this only if it behaves well.
Iran got exemption till August 21
Let us tell you that under the agreement between America and Iran, the Trump administration had given this exemption to Iran at the end of June, which was to be applicable till August 21 i.e. for 60 days.
America condemned Iran
Earlier, Centcom condemned Iran’s action, calling it ‘inappropriate’ and ‘dangerous’. He even termed Iran’s action as a ‘ceasefire violation’. “This aggression by Iran is unjustified, dangerous and a clear violation of the ceasefire,” CENTCOM said in a post.
The exemption given to Iran was beneficial for India
One of the ships targeted by Iran was the Qatari ship Al-Reqayyat, which was reportedly carrying energy materials to India. The general license, which was expected to remain in effect until August 21 before being revoked, was considered particularly beneficial for countries like India, which had significant energy trade with Iran before US sanctions were imposed.
