The ongoing controversy regarding Punjabi cinema superstar Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Sutlej’ is not ending. Earlier this film was stuck in the Censor Board for three years, but it was not passed. In such a situation, recently the makers had quietly released it on ZEE5. However, the film was removed within 48 hours of its release on OTT. Meanwhile, ‘Sutlej’ has now got the support of Shiromani Akali Dal. Party President Sukhbir Singh Badal has made a big announcement regarding Diljit’s film.

What did Sukhbir Singh Badal say?
Shiromani Akali Dal has decided to take it to every village of Punjab. Sukhbir Badal wrote on his official Despite the central government removing the film from the OTT platform, we will organize screenings in public places to make it reach the people. This film is the story of the courage of a man who sacrificed his life to bring before the world the cases of alleged fake encounters, murders and disappearances of thousands of Sikh youth during the era of terrorism.

‘Sutlej’ will be shown all over Punjab
He further wrote, ‘The youth of today’s Punjab and the coming generations should know who Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalda was and under what circumstances he fought for the truth. This is why Shiromani Akali Dal has decided that this film will be shown in public places across Punjab. No matter how much effort is made to suppress it, this film will definitely reach the people.
This film was to be released in theaters earlier
Let us tell you that ‘Sutlej’ is the biopic of Jaswant Singh Khalda. He was the general secretary of the human rights cell of Shiromani Akali Dal and a human rights activist. Diljit has played the character of Jaswant in the film. Along with him, there are also actors like Arjun Rampal, Suvinder Vicky, Jagjit Sandhu and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan. The film was on hold with the Censor Board for almost three years. Earlier it was scheduled to be released in theaters on 7 February 2025, but it could not get the green signal from the censor board. The makers quietly released it on ZEE5 at 8:30 pm on 3rd July.

Name of the film changed
Let us tell you that this film was earlier named ‘Punjab 95’. However, after the controversy increased, the makers changed its name to ‘Sutlej’. The film depicts alleged unlawful killings and allegations of human rights violations that took place during the era of terrorism. It has been claimed that during that period, more than 25 thousand people were allegedly murdered illegally and their last rites were also performed secretly.
