After two consecutive days of rain in Delhi, the sky remained clear on Friday morning (July 10). According to weather experts, the coming week is likely to be dry and hot in the city, while the monsoon is expected to gain strength again later this month. However, according to the Meteorological Department, much more rainfall than normal was recorded in Delhi in the first 10 days of July.

This year, monsoon arrived in Delhi on July 2 against its normal arrival date of June 27. Delhi’s base weather station Safdarjung recorded 132.2 mm rainfall against the normal average rainfall (LPA) of 52.6 mm for this period, which is about 151 percent more than normal. Of this, more than 100 mm rainfall occurred during the last two days.

What did the Skymet Weather official tell?

Mahesh Palawat of Skymet Weather said that rainfall activities are likely to remain weak in Delhi till July 15, because the monsoon trough has shifted towards the foothills of the Himalayas. He said, “There may be very light rain at isolated places on Saturday (July 11) and Sunday (July 12), but there is no possibility of any major meteorological event.” Palawat said that during this period there is a possibility of increase in temperature and decrease in humidity.

He said that after July 15, the monsoon trough is likely to move towards the south again, which will increase the chances of another round of rain in Delhi. He said that the westerly winds bringing dry air from Rajasthan and Central Pakistan have also reached Delhi, due to which after several days of cloudy weather and heavy rains, the sky has now become clear and there is bright sunshine.
