Boat full of Indian tourists capsizes in Vietnam, 15 dead, Embassy releases helpline number

The Indian Embassy in Vietnam posted on Twitter saying that this is a tragic incident. A few hours ago, a boat carrying several Indian tourists capsized near Phu Quoc island in Vietnam. Accurate information about the incident is being collected. Rescue operation is being conducted by the local authorities.

21 people survived and 15 others died in the accident.

According to information received from the officials of the Special Economic Zone of Phu Quoc, at 1 pm, a speedboat of Ocean Pier Island Company was going to An Thoi Port from the tourist route in Ko Hoan. It is 25 kilometers away from Phu Quoc Airport.

Then it overturned about 499 meters from Route Ngoi in Hoan. Due to this everyone aboard fell into the sea. Seeing the overturned boat, nearby tourist boats reached there for help. The owner of a boat involved in the rescue said that his boat reached the spot within five minutes. But there was a problem in the rescue because people were trapped inside the boat.

He informed that very few people could regain consciousness. It was not raining in the area. The ocean waves were strong. It was not raining. Tourist boats were plying in that area. The An Thoi Border Guard dispatched two ships and 35 officers and soldiers to the scene, who joined the rescue efforts along with the Navy, Coast Guard and other relevant forces.

By afternoon, the rescue had brought all 36 people in the speedboat to the shore. 21 people survived. 15 others which included two women and 13 men. His death was confirmed.
