IPL 2026 season runs from 28 March-31 May. In this tournament that lasted for about 2 months, everyone from Vaibhav Suryavanshi to Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma were seen hitting a lot of sixes. Only a month after that, Indian players went on tour to Ireland and England, where all the stormy batting came to naught. Vaibhav was coming in with a record of 72 sixes in the season, but in England, he was exposed on short pitch balls.
A lot of sixes are often hit in T20 matches, but the Indian team was constantly struggling to send the ball across the boundary line. In 7 matches against Ireland and England, Indian players were able to hit a total of 43 sixes, whereas in the England series, Jos Buttler and Harry Brook together hit 26 sixes.
Why couldn’t Indians do stormy batting?
Recently, Joffra Archer had taken a dig at the pitches being prepared for IPL, where it is very easy to bat on. To some extent this is also true, because even 250 runs are not safe on the flat pitches of IPL. Getting used to playing on easy pitches for batting for 2 months and then finding difficulty in hitting shots on the difficult pitches of England, is not surprising. There is more swing, movement and bounce in England as compared to Indian pitches.

Many players were playing in England for the first time
A major reason for the poor performance of the Indian team was that most of the players of the T20 team were playing in England for the first time. Even Shreyas Iyer had played only one T20 match in England before this series, which took place in 2022.
