Team India has finally got its first win on the England tour. India defeated England by 6 wickets in the first ODI played at Edgbaston, Birmingham. With this victory, Team India has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. In the first ODI, after playing first, England scored 258 runs thanks to half-centuries from Joe Root and Liam Dawson. In reply, Team India won by 6 wickets in the 46th over. Captain Shubhman Gill played a brilliant inning of 80 runs for India. He retired hurt. Akshar Patel, who took four wickets in bowling, also did wonders with the bat. Akshar played the match winning inning of 57 runs. Washington Sundar scored an important 52 runs. Both of them returned unbeaten after winning the match for India.

ROKO failed, still India won

In response to the target of 259 runs set by England, Team India had quickly lost the wickets of veteran batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs in 21 balls and Virat Kohli scored only five runs in six balls. India had lost two wickets for 48 runs. After this, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer made a brilliant partnership of 109 runs. Gill looked in excellent form right from the beginning.

Shreyas Iyer was run out after scoring 35 runs in 53 balls. Captain Gill was on 80 runs in 75 balls, when he suffered back pain while batting, and then he retired hurt. After this Washington Sundar and Akshar Patel took charge. Sundar scored 52 runs in 63 balls with the help of four fours and one six. Whereas Akshar Patel played an inning of 57 runs in 52 balls. There was a brilliant century inning of 102 runs between the two.

Earlier, England had made a great start in this match. At one time England’s score was 61 runs without any wicket, but after that 6 wickets fell for 107 runs. Ben Duckett was out on 43, Jacob Bethel 14, Harry Brook 01, Jos Buttler 05 and Sam Curran 00. After this, Joe Root played an unbeaten inning of 76 runs and Liam Johnson played an inning of 68 runs. Both the players added 121 runs in 134 balls for the seventh wicket and took the team to a challenging score.

In bowling, Akshar Patel took the maximum of four wickets for India. He dismissed four English batsmen for 62 runs in 9.5 overs. Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar got two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Shivam Dubey got one success each.
