Questions raised on Gambhir’s decisions, AB de Villiers scolds Team India after the defeat in Ireland-England

After the crushing defeat in the T20 series against England, questions are being raised on the strategies of the Indian team and head coach Gautam Gambhir. Meanwhile, former South African batsman AB de Villiers has also openly expressed his opinion on the performance of Team India. He believes that the players who performed brilliantly in IPL now need to understand the real challenges of international cricket. De Villiers said that one cannot bat aggressively all the time in international cricket. Here players have to adapt themselves according to the conditions and this is the biggest identity of a successful batsman.

Big difference between IPL and international cricket

During a conversation on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said that there are many serious challenges before the Indian team and now it is the responsibility of head coach Gautam Gambhir to give the right direction to the team. He said, ‘The responsibility of how to take this team forward is on Gambhir and I am confident that he can do it. But this defeat can also be an important wake-up call for the team. Players who have been scoring runs consistently in the IPL now need to come back down to earth and understand the reality of international cricket.

De Villiers further said that there is a huge difference between IPL and international cricket. In IPL, batsmen often find bowlers against whom runs can be easily scored, but in international cricket every bowler is world class. In such a situation, instead of just playing big shots, the batsmen will have to learn to prepare their innings according to the situation. De Villiers said, ‘You should know how to play in more than one or two gears. You can’t always bat in fifth gear. Here you have to adapt to the circumstances.

De Villiers said, ‘It was very difficult to see India lose 4-0, I did not expect this. But considering the lack of experience, this was not completely unexpected. In such times, leadership becomes even more important. You will have to have some patience regarding the formation of this team. You cannot get a new Bumrah, Virat or Rohit overnight. It takes time. However, the Indian team could have played better, and I felt that at times they did not have a clear game plan.

Questions raised on Gautam Gambhir’s strategy

After India’s poor performance in the T20 series, many of Gautam Gambhir’s decisions have come under criticism. There is a debate in the cricket world regarding team selection and continuous changes in playing eleven. Many players got continuous opportunities, but they could not live up to the expectations.

Despite this, there was a lack of clarity in the team composition. However, De Villiers believes that it would not be right to blame only the coach. According to him, the players coming on the field will also have to understand their responsibilities and perform better in difficult conditions.
