What is the truth of the viral claim?
A screenshot of this news has been shared through the social media account of government agency PIB Fact Check, on which it is clearly written FAKE. The caption along with this reads, ‘Fake News Alert! A post on social media claims that the Finance Ministry has asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to consider regulating crypto.

It is further written in the post, ‘According to PIB Fact Check, this claim is fake. India does not consider crypto as an asset. No such instructions have been issued by the Finance Ministry. RBI had issued a statement
Let us tell you that just a few days ago, RBI had told a parliamentary committee that virtual digital assets like cryptocurrency are a threat to an emerging economy like India. He had further pleaded that such assets should not be given legal recognition in the country. Through this, RBI itself has opposed crypto or any virtual currency. So in such a situation, giving such an order by the government itself raises question marks.
