ITR Meal Voucher Limit: Have you filed your ITR i.e. Income Tax Return? If yes then you must know about this. But if you have not filed yet then this news is very important for you. Because this year you will not be able to get the tax benefit of Rs 200 on meal voucher by filing ITR. Let us tell you why this is so?
Why won’t you get meal vouchers?
Regarding this, we all know that the government has increased the tax-free limit on meal vouchers given to the employees. But you will not get this benefit in the ITR being filed this year. This is because this new rule has come into effect from April 1, 2026. This means that it will be applicable only on the income received in the financial year 2026-27. ITR of this income will be filed in the financial year 2027-28.

For which year is ITR being filed now?
At present the ITR being filed is for the financial year 2025-26, i.e. for income from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. Therefore, this year the benefit of tax exemption will be available only as per the old rules and the new limit of Rs 200 per day cannot be claimed. In such a situation, there is a lot of disappointment among the employees. Because they will have to wait for another year to avail this benefit.
Let us tell you that this time i.e. if you are going to file ITR for the financial year 2026-27, then your tax calculation will be as per the old rules. This means you will get a tax-free limit of Rs 50 per mile. In such a situation, while filing ITR, do not think at all that you will get return per mile on Rs 200.
