What is the whole matter?
According to the CCPA, many restaurants were automatically adding a 5% or 10% service charge to customers’ bills. Is it necessary to pay service charge?
No, it is not necessary to pay service charge. According to CCPA, hotels or restaurants cannot force people to pay service charges. If this charge has been added to the bill and you do not want to pay it, you can ask the restaurant to remove it. The restaurant cannot refuse to serve you food just because you have refused to pay the service charge.

What is the difference between service charge and GST?
Many people consider service charge and GST to be the same, whereas it is not so. GST is a tax imposed by the government, which is mandatory to be paid. Service charge is levied by restaurants and it is optional. To give it or not depends entirely on the wishes of the customer.
