Nepal government has approved the new design coin. According to this, the disputed map of the country will now be removed from the one rupee coin. This included Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani. Nepal has been staking its claim on these areas, while India claims it as its territory. But now the stance of Nepal’s Balendu government seems to be softening. This is being seen as a positive initiative between the two countries.
In May 2020, KP Oli’s government had included these areas including Kalapani and Lipulekh in its official map. According to The Telegraph India, sources have informed that on Thursday, the Council of Ministers had given approval to make new design coins of one rupee and two rupees on behalf of Nepal Rastra Bank.
According to the cabinet decision, the new political map of Nepal will be removed from the one rupee coin. The newly designed one rupee coin will feature the picture of Lo Dhyakar Monastery located in Marang village of Mustang, Nepal. This monastery is considered to be one of the oldest monasteries of Nepal.
Criticized the government’s decision, said- threat to the integrity of the country
According to cabinet sources, there will be a pre-printed map on the two rupee coin. Senior leader of Nepal’s Communist Party Bhim Rawal has criticized this decision of the government. It was described as a serious threat against the territorial integrity of Nepal.
Rawal demanded that both the government and the ruling Rashtriya Swatantra Party should immediately clarify the situation in this matter. Rawal has said that if the government led by PM Balen Shah really decided to remove the map of Nepal from the one rupee coin and put the picture of Lo Dhyakar Math on its lid. This will be another serious anti-national decision. There will be a blow to the territorial integrity of Nepal.
What type will Nepal’s new one rupee coin be like?
Bank spokesperson Guru Prasad Paudel has issued a statement. In this he told that Nepal Rastra Bank had proposed a new design in place of the old design to reduce the size and weight of the coins. Nepal’s new political map cannot appear on one rupee coin. Its size is small. Janaki temple will be depicted on the other side of the two rupee coin. The weight of the new coins will be less than before. One rupee coin will now be 3.2 grams instead of 4 grams. The 2 rupee coin will be 3.8 grams instead of 5 grams. These coins will be made from steel instead of mixed metal. Their color will be steel white instead of yellow.
