Crude oil loading stopped from Iraq

Two state oil companies of India have stopped loading crude oil from Iraq due to increasing security threats and attacks in Hormuz. It is being told that Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) has canceled the plan to lift 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil from its supertanker Leela Jamnagar. Similarly, Mangalore Refinery (MRPL) has also stopped the loading of its tanker Desh Gaurav.

In fact, ships passing through Hormuz are being continuously targeted. Recently, tension has increased further after a drone attack near Basra Terminal in Iraq. Due to this, it is very risky to attempt the Hormuz crossing for now. Salim al-Riqbi, a spokesman for Iraq’s oil ministry, said, “Due to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the increasing conflict in the region, the risks associated with transportation and the cost of insurance have increased. Due to this, some companies have canceled scheduled loading operations,” he said.
