Delhi’s Jantar Mantar is currently filled with Gen-G. The students of the country are continuously demanding from the government the resignation of the country’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. But amidst all this, Gen-G has also changed the way of protesting and demonstrating. When the mike was in her hand and the cameras were in front of her, Genji, without saying anything bitter, made such gestures with her fingers that even the spectators started scratching their heads. In the videos going viral, the youth are sometimes making ‘heart’ by joining thumb and finger, and sometimes they are showing their hesitation by hitting their fingers together. Amidst traditional politics and serious demonstrations, these cool and trendy ‘hand gestures’ have turned the entire movement towards social media.
These three unique gestures became more viral than slogans
In the videos going viral during the demonstration, three main gestures are gaining the most headlines. The first is ‘Korean Finger Heart’ (🫰), which comes from K-pop and K-drama culture and the youth are expressing their support and love through it. Many times youth also make this gesture in front of Delhi Police, which means keep your heart soft. The second gesture is ‘a little bit’ (🤏, in which a small gap is made between the index finger and the thumb to describe something as ‘very small’ or ‘less’. The third gesture is ‘nervous gesture’ (👉👈), in which the index fingers of both hands are touched together, which shows hesitation and nervousness.

Unique style in front of the camera, reporters were surprised
This experience is also quite new for the media persons doing on-ground reporting at Jantar Mantar. When reporters ask tough questions to the youth, they use these gestures instead of speeches and answer in a cool manner. These clips are being shared widely on the internet. The youth say that this is their new digital way of expressing their views and protesting. There is another gesture which is being named as Fit Check, in which Gen-ji stands and poses and checks his entire body himself. This is being done because we are going to face the lathi charge of Delhi Police.
