Big news has come out regarding the politics of Karnataka. Siddaramaiah, former Chief Minister of the state and a senior leader of the Congress Party, has announced not to contest the 2028 assembly elections. He has given this information through a post on X.

He said, ‘I will not contest the 2028 assembly elections. I am now 79 years old. There is still one and a half year left in the tenure of our government. By then I will be 81-82 years old. My health is no longer what it used to be. Now it is not possible to work with the same zeal and enthusiasm as before.

Corruption has come into politics today, that’s why I will not contest elections: Siddaramaiah

Siddaramaiah is KR of Mandya district. He was speaking at a private program organized in Pat on Saturday. Announcing this, Siddaramaiah said, ‘Today corruption has come into politics. Therefore, I will not contest the 2028 assembly elections. However, while remaining active in politics, I will continue to be the voice of people’s sorrow and happiness.

He said, ‘People of Varuna constituency are urging me to contest elections once. But I have decided that now I will not contest any election. Earlier, when I used to contest elections, it was the people of the constituency who used to give us money. Used to ensure our victory, but today the situation is no longer the same.

Referring to age, he said, ‘I am now 79 years old. There is still one and a half year left in the tenure of our government. By then I will be 81-82 years old. My health is no longer what it used to be. Now it is not possible to work with the same zeal and enthusiasm as before.

He said, ‘By 2028 I will be 82 years old. Then 50 years of my political career will be completed. I started my political journey as a Taluk Board member in 1978. I have seen both defeat and victory. But I am satisfied that I have never acted against the principles in which I believed, nor betrayed my conscience.

He said, ‘Now the time has come that if we contest elections, we will have to pay money to people. Today’s politics has become completely corrupt. There is no room left for honest politics. Considering this environment, I have decided not to contest elections in future. For five decades, the people of the state considered me one of their own and guided me with love. I owe him this. Therefore, my future life will also be dedicated to public service.
