There is now a demand to include 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi in ODI cricket. Vaibhav may have been a flop in England, but he performed as expected in the T20 series against Zimbabwe. He was also the Player of the Series by scoring the most runs. In three matches, Vaibhav scored 151 runs with the help of 9 sixes and 15 fours. After this, the former Indian legend has demanded him to open with Rohit Sharma in ODIs.
Former Indian cricketer Farooq Engineer believes that keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup, Vaibhav Suryavanshi should be included in the ODI team as an opening batsman along with Rohit Sharma. He believes that Shubman Gill, who opened the innings with Rohit, can bat at number four, which will further strengthen the middle order.
Engineer told news agency PTI, “The ideal situation is of Shubhman Gill and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Gill is an excellent player. In my opinion, Gill is the best batsman of the team at the moment, so Gill should come to bat at number four. Gill does not hit the ball by raising it in the air. Apart from this, the combination of left-right handed batsmen will be ideal in ODIs. I believe that Rohit should remain in the team and he should open the innings with Suryavanshi.”
Engineer further said, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the ideal player to open the innings. Virat Kohli can come at number three and Shubman Gill at number four. This will also strengthen India’s batting.” Engineer further said that this is the right time to include Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the ODI team.
