The next big target of the Indian team is ICC ODI World Cup 2027. Team India is continuously performing brilliantly in big tournaments and now its eyes are on the next World Cup. Meanwhile, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer has selected his favorite playing XI. There are some expected names in their team, but there are also some decisions which have caught the attention of cricket fans.
Expressed confidence in Rohit and Gill
Wasim Jaffer has given the responsibility of opening to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the video shared on his YouTube channel. He has also given the role of captaincy to Gill. Virat Kohli has been placed at number three, while Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have got the place in the middle order. The responsibility of wicketkeeping has been handed over to Rahul.
Hardik and Akshar selected among all-rounders
Jaffer has included Hardik Pandya and Akshar Patel as all-rounders in his team. He considered both the players important for maintaining the balance of the team. However, the biggest decision was to keep Ravindra Jadeja out of the playing XI. Jaffer has selected Ishan Kishan as the 12th player as the additional wicketkeeper.
Shami and Siraj return to bowling
The biggest discussion in Wasim Jaffer’s team is about the fast bowling attack. Along with Jasprit Bumrah, he has also included Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj in the playing XI. Interestingly, both the bowlers are not currently a part of India’s ODI team, but Jaffer believes that their experience can prove useful for the team in a big tournament like the World Cup. He has handed over the responsibility of spin department to Kuldeep Yadav. Kuldeep did not get a chance in the recent ODI series against England, but Jaffer has chosen him as the main spinner of his team.
Emphasis on experience and balance
A good mix of experience and young players can be seen in the team selected by Jaffer. He has expressed confidence in such players who have faced the pressure of big matches. He also indicated that the role of experienced players can be very important in a tournament like the World Cup.
