Pakistan HRCP Report: The Pakistan Human Rights Commission (HRCP) has said in its new report that the freedom of citizens in the country is decreasing, the law and order situation is deteriorating and the pressure on the federal system is also increasing. This report was released on Wednesday, which is named ‘Status of Human Rights in 2024’.
The report said that there were allegations of disturbances in the elections held in February 2024, which raised questions on the transparency of the election. After this, the government formed quickly enacted many such laws which were not completely good and it benefited non-Loklocratic forces.
Deaths have been more than 2500 deaths
According to the report, in 2024, more than 2500 people died in terrorist attacks in Pakistan. Most of these deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Apart from this, at least 24 people died in violence by angry mob. Some of these cases were related to the allegations of blasphemy, which came up in areas like Swat and Sargodha.

According to The Dawn’s news, while releasing the annual report of the Human Rights Commission (HRCP), Chairman Asad Iqbal Butt expressed concern about the violence at the government level in 2024. He said that at least 379 new people were forcibly disappeared in this year. Two people were murdered by a mob in suspicion of Ishaninda and only 4,864 fake police encounters in Sindh and Punjab.
Former president Hina Jilani also said that forcibly disappearing is not right, whether it is war or terrorism related case. He insisted that the law is necessary to deal with all kinds of violence. He said, “For any reason violence or terrorist acts cannot be justified. The human rights community emphasizes that all acts of violence be dealt with as per law.”
‘More than 1200 people were imprisoned on charges of blasphemy’
More than 1200 people were imprisoned in jail on charges of blasphemy. These people were accused that they shared objectionable material on social media, but according to the report, they were deliberately implicated by right -wing organizations. The Ahmadiyya community said that at least 6 people were murdered due to religious reasons and more than 200 tombs and places of worship were damaged.
Social media platform X (first Twitter) was repeatedly banned in Pakistan. Journalists who were reporting on sensitive issues related to the government were arrested. The government repeatedly implemented Section 144 to prevent public programs and meetings. The Pashtun Tahfuz movement was also banned. Apart from this, more force was used on the people performing many times. All this shows that the Government of Pakistan does not want to listen to criticism or protest.
The freedom to speak was affected by the laws made by the government in 2024. Commenting on this, Munija Jahangir, co -chairman of the Human Rights Organization HRCP, said that government officials should not be saved from legitimate criticism. According to Dawn’s report, in 2024, Pakistan’s courts had a lot of workload. About 24 lakh (2.4 million) cases are still pending across the country.
Concern over 26th constitutional amendment
HRCP general secretary Harris Khalik said that the workers, sanitation workers and polio workers working in the mines are facing the most danger while doing their jobs. By 2024 only 172 people were killed in work related incidents in these areas.
Violence against women and children also continued in 2024. According to the report, incidents of at least 405 honor killing, 1,641 domestic murder, 4,175 rapes and 1,630 violence were reported against children.
The Government of Pakistan continued to send Afghan citizens back to their country despite concern of the international community, while the step was considered against the standards of international rules and respect. HRCP’s Islamabad Vice President Nasreen Azhar expressed concern over the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which has increased the government’s interference in the works of the judiciary.
