Bomb threats in delhi schools: The schools of the country’s capital are under the shadow of fear and uncertainty these days. Parents and children have an atmosphere of fear due to frequent news of fake bomb threats. They are under mental pressure.
At the same time, the negligence of the administration has made the situation more serious. The Delhi High Court, taking a tough stand on this, has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the government and the Delhi Police Commissioner and sought a reply. The bench of Justice Anish Dayal said that this is not a normal case. When such false threats are being received repeatedly in places to be considered safe like school, then there is an immediate need for proper and coordinated system.
Delhi HC Court asked- Why SOP has not been made yet?
Petitioner advocate Arpit Bhargava said in his petition that on 14 November 2024, the High Court had given a clear order that the Delhi government and the police have to prepare a detailed standard operation process (SOP), so that they can react immediately and effectively in these emergency situations. According to the order, a plan was to be made within eight weeks, but there was no concrete initiative till 14 January 2025.
‘4600 schools, only 5 bomb squads’
The Delhi Police itself has admitted that there are more than 4,600 schools in the capital, but only 5 bombs are inactivated squads and 18 bombing teams. The High Court has expressed displeasure over this and described it as a serious lapse. The court said that such limited resources under such sensitive circumstances endanger the safety of children.
Environment of fear, lack of system
The petition said that whether threats are real or false, schools are evacuated every time, children spread nervousness, studies are interrupted and there is an atmosphere of panic among parents. Every time there is different reaction without sop, which causes chaos.
Next hearing on May 19, officials were summoned
The court has fixed the date of May 19 for the next hearing of the case and has given clear instructions that the top officials of the government and the police should present the status report by presenting themselves. The court has also indicated that strict action can be taken under the Contempt of Courts.
