Double pneumonia is a serious disease, in which both parts of the lungs are vulnerable to infection. Usually pneumonia occurs in a lungs, but when both lungs are swollen and mucus is filled in them, it is called double pneumonia. This hinders the supply of oxygen to the body and has trouble breathing. This disease shows quick effects in children, elderly, already sick individuals and people with weak immune systems. If not treated on time, it can also be fatal.
Causes of double pneumonia
- Bacteria- Double pneumonia is mostly spread by bacteria called streptococcus pneumoniae.
- Virus- Viruses like flu virus, RSV and Covid-19 can cause double pneumonia.
- Weak immunity If a person’s immunity is weak, then the infection can catch him quickly.
- Smoking –Long -term smoking or staying in polluted air slowly stops working and increases the risk of infection.
The risk of double pneumonia increases even if the patient has diseases like asthma, heart disease, diabetes.
Symptoms of double pneumonia
- High fever and chills- In the initial symptoms of double pneumonia, fever is high and the body is shivering.
- persistent cough- Cough persists for a long time. It can also bring blood along with mucus.
- Breathing difficulty- Both lungs are affected due to lack of oxygen and the patient starts breathing.
- Chest pain- Especially when the patient coughs or takes a deep breath, then there is a feeling of pressure in the chest.
- Fatigue and weakness – Weakness starts feeling in the body and in doing a little work, a person starts getting tired.
- Non-hunger- The patient does not feel hungry, which can also reduce weight.
- dizzy- This situation is seen especially in the elderly. Elderly patients may have problems like mental confusion, dizziness or fainting.
