‘Get the new Omikron sub-variants of Corona’

Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr. Rajiv Bahl said that the new Omikron sub-variants of Kovid-19 have been found in the genome sequencing of samples taken from western and southern states of the country, LF.7, XFG, JN.1 and NB.1.8.1. The first three of these variants have been seen in the most cases. However, the seriousness of these variants is said to be less and most of the patients are getting treatment at home.

Health experts’ opinion regarding new variants

According to health experts, people infected with these new variants are generally seen in light symptoms such as fever, nose, sore throat, headache and fatigue. However, these variants can dodge the immune system, but no concrete evidence has been found so far that they cause serious or prolonged illness. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also not included these variants in the worrying category.

Need to be cautious, not to panic

Dr. Bahl has said that there is no need to panic at the moment, but continuous monitoring of the situation is necessary. He has also appealed to the public not to panic but be cautious. The government is actively monitoring the situation and if the corona cases increase, the emphasis will be on increasing vigilance and making necessary preparations. Meanwhile, most of the patients are being treated at home, due to which the pressure on hospitals remains less. The Health Department has urged the public to continue following the rules of Korona and adopt security measures.
