“Revenue is not just a figure, this is the foundation of development of the state.” Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this during the high-level review meeting of State Tax Department in Lucknow on Saturday. Along with this, he ordered strict action on tax evaders and shell companies.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister made it clear that whatever traders are misusing the facilities, they will not be spared under any circumstances. He told the officials, “Such shell companies and fake firms should be identified and strict legal action should be taken against them.”

During the review meeting of the State Tax Department, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that tax evasion is a national crime that damages development schemes and welfare schemes. Apart from this, he said that fake companies obstruct the rights of honest taxpayers. They will not be tolerated. At the same time, CM Yogi said that his physical verification is necessary.
How much tax collection happened?
Officials said that a total of Rs 18,161.59 crore has been recovered from GST and VAT in April and May. This is being considered a good step towards the target of Rs 1,75,725 crore of 2025–26. The CM appreciated this progress but directed to fulfill the target and work fast.
Which zone remained at the top and which behind?
CM Yogi congratulated both the zones of Lucknow, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Agra, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Meerut, Jhansi and Saharanpur, who collected 60 percent or more. But also expressed resentment over the slow recovery of zones like Varanasi-1, Prayagraj, Kanpur-2, Etawah, Aligarh and Moradabad. The performance of these zones was less than 50 percent.
What will happen next?
CM Yogi ordered in this meeting that a special report should be made and submitted to the government in the areas where the collection is low. In addition, the field level should be analyzed in detail with the help of experts. Additional Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner should meet the traders themselves, increase dialogue and create an atmosphere of tax rearing. CM Yogi Adityanath said that there should be transparency in tax collection. Technology should be used and honest taxpayers should be given protection. He said that development is possible only when every businessman and officer should fulfill the responsibility.
