Manusmriti will not be taught in delhi university dharma shastra adhyayan syllabus removed from Sanskrit Department Ann

Delhi University has taken an important decision. Under this, no education will be taught in any syllabus. University Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh clarified that the ‘Dharmashastra Study’ syllabus of the Sanskrit department has been completely removed, in which Manusmriti was first included as recommended Reading Material.

Delhi University gave this information

In an official statement issued by the university administration, it was said that Manusmriti will not be studied in any course of Delhi University. The ‘theology Studies’ course of Sanskrit department, which was included in the recommended reading material, has been removed from the course list.

Student organizations opposed syllabus

This decision was taken when Manusmriti was included in a new Sanskrit course of graduation of the university. Many student organizations and teachers lodged a protest on this. Opponents said that Manusmriti has promoted varna system and anti-female ideas, which is unacceptable in today’s social environment.

Why did the university take this decision?

Following the demonstrations and memorandum of students and teachers amidst disputes, the university administration reconsidered it and decided to remove the controversial course material. The purpose of this step is to maintain an inclusive and progressive educational environment in the university campus.

This book will never be taught

The hope of teaching Manusmriti in Delhi University’s School of Open Learning (SOL) is now over. The university has ensured that this book will neither be taught nor recommended in any course in the coming time. This decision is being seen as a policy initiative, which has been raised towards giving priority to students’ diversity, social justice and egalitarian values. This decision of the university has been welcomed by many social organizations and teachers.
