Indian students in ran: Hundreds of Indian medical students are hiding in the basement of apartments to save their lives amidst the ever -increasing Israeli air strikes in Iran. Students are nervous day and night amidst the sounds of bullets, the echo of bomb blasts and slow internet. In this difficult situation, Indian students have requested the central government for help.
Imtisal Mohidin, who hails from Kupwara district of Kashmir, is a third year MBBS students at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. He said, ‘I woke up from the sound of loud blasts at 2:30 pm on Friday. Panicked and ran into the basement. Since then, I have not been able to sleep peacefully. He said that there are explosions around the university and an explosion took place only 5 kilometers.
Shahid studies more than 350 Indian students at Beheshti University. Now they are all forced to live in the shadow of fear. The university has postponed all classes and students have been forbidden to exit. According to Imtisal, “We are now hiding in the basement of the apartment all day. The sounds of bombing come overnight. We have not closed the eyes for three days.”
Indian Embassy advice: Stay at home, stay connected with helpline
In view of the deteriorating situation in Iran, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a public advice asking all Indian citizens and Indians to stay indoors and join the Telegram link given by the embassy. The embassy said that this link is only for those people who are currently in Iran. The embassy said in a post, “We request that all Indian citizens join the given Telegram link so that they keep getting the latest updates related to the situation.” Along with this, the embassy has also released emergency helpline numbers.
However, students say that the atmosphere of fear is so deep that only advice and message are not getting relief. Emperor Mohidin said emotionally, “We folded hands to the Government of India and request that we be evacuated from here as soon as possible. Before the situation worsens.”
We came to become a doctor, now trying to return alive …
Faizan Nabi, a first year student studying in Kirman city, about 1,000 km from Tehran, also spoke to ANI. He hails from Srinagar and is studying in Kirman University of Medical Sciences. Faizan said, “The sounds of firing were heard in our city today. My friends living in Tehran are very scared. The panic is so much that we have been asked to store drinking water for 3-4 days. Every day is passing in fear of fear.” He further said, “My parents call 10 times a day. Internet is so weak that I cannot send a message properly. We came here to become a doctor, but now the situation has become such that the bus is expecting to return home alive.”
Now just hope to return to India
Midhat, a resident of Sopore in Jammu and Kashmir, is a fourth year student at Iran University of Medical Sciences. He told that when the first attack took place, the night was the most scary. Speaking to the news agency ANI, he said, “The sounds of the blasts came from so close that everything was happening here. There was chaos all around. Everyone was nervous. We were constantly trying to stay in contact with our family and keep an eye on every news.”
He also informed that there has not been much support from the university. The Indian Embassy is in constant touch through WhatsApp, but we have given up hope of help from the university. Most of us are now cutting off the day only after being closed in the apartment. The fear is so much that you do not dare to get out.
Due to Iran’s limited airspace and continuous bombing, students do not know when the situation will be normal. They are now expecting only to return to India.
