Dalai lama 90th birthday: A grand ceremony was held at Sambhota Tibetan School in Chhota Shimla on the occasion of 90th birthday of the Spiritual Guru Dalai Lama, the spiritual guru of the Tibetan community in Himachal Pradesh. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
Describing the Dalai Lama as a symbol of world peace, compassion, unity and humanity, the Deputy Chief Minister said that his life is an example of truth, non-violence and compassion and he is an inspiration not only for the Tibetan community but also for the whole world.
His residence in Dharamshala is a matter of pride – Mukesh Agnihotri
Mukesh Agnihotri said that his residence in Himachal’s land Dharamshala is a matter of pride for all of us. The credit for Dharamshala getting international recognition also goes to the Holiness Dalai Lama. He said that every Indian should get information about Tibetan culture and history.
He said that the Government of India and Himachal Pradesh have always treated affection and brotherhood with the Tibetan community. We live like a family with the Tibetan community and the Tibetan community has got a good atmosphere here.
Tibetan community was also given the right to vote
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government has taken many important steps from time to time to protect the interests of the Tibetan community and the previous Congress governments have contributed significantly. Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had deep faith in Buddhism and Param Holiness Dalai Lama.
He said that the Tibetan community has also been given the right to vote, which is an example of democratic traditions of India. The Deputy Chief Minister assured that Tibetan artists will be given an opportunity to showcase their culture in fairs and festivals held in the state.
School children presented cultural programs
The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed the Department of Language, Arts and Culture to preserve the Tibetan cultural heritage. He stressed the need to save and pursue the Tibetan traditional medical system. During this, he also launched a free medical camp.
In the program, people from Tibetan community and school children presented cultural programs. On this occasion, the President of India-Tibet Friendship Association, Prof. VS Negi highlighted Tibetan culture and history.
Chief Representative Officer Lakhapa Tsering welcomed the Deputy Chief Minister and gave detailed information about organizing the program.
