Hearing on Shiv Sena election symbol dispute in August, Uddhav Thackeray has sought relief by citing local election

Uddhav Thackeray’s petition on Shiv Sena’s election symbol was postponed in the Supreme Court for August. Uddhav Thackeray has demanded an interim order due to local body elections in Maharashtra. The case was imposed in the Supreme Court on Monday (July 14, 2025), but the court postponed the hearing, stating the need for a detailed debate.

Uddhav Thackeray lost power in Maharashtra after the revolt in Shiv Sena under the leadership of Eknath Shinde in 2022. On 17 February 2023, the Election Commission found Eknath Shinde’s claim on Shiv Sena. The Election Commission had allotted the original election symbol of Shiv Sena to the Shinde faction. Uddhav Khema reached the Supreme Court against it. The matter is pending since then.

Local body elections are to be held in Maharashtra in the next few months. In such a situation, Uddhav Thackeray wants the court to give any order as he gave in the Sharad Pawar-Azit Pawar dispute of NCP. In the NCP dispute, the Election Commission had allotted the clock of the party’s original election symbol to Ajit Pawar. The Supreme Court did not stop this, but had ordered that Ajit Pawar should write in his advertisements that the matter is under consideration in the court.
