In this film, many actors including Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Saeed Jafri, Jugal Hansraj, Urmila Matondkar played important roles. At the same time, Shekhar Kapoor in one of his latest posts told the shocking thing about the first film ‘Masoom’ made under his direction. He revealed that no one had gone to the theater to see it, but then something happened that its tickets were sold in black.
No one had reached the theater to see ‘innocent’
In fact, through an emotional and heart touching post, the director recalled that tension filled week of the release of his first film Masoom with the window of old memories. He told that when this film was released, no one had come to see the film, and he felt that his career as a filmmaker was over before it started.
He wrote in the post, “The problem is that you have made an ‘article’ film, then even the other young black marketers joined the almost threatening style. I soon understood that he was ‘artistic’ from ‘Article’ that he was ‘artistic’ … but it was not praised in any way … because they bought tickets in the hope of getting full house, so that they could sell on profit …
Career as a producer ends before it starts Done
The theater was lying vacant in the film release Friday and the days after that. He further said, “I went to the theater … and there were only two people, and one of them was me! So much emptiness shook me. It was the end of my career as a filmmaker … which was not really even … because innocent was my first film.”
Everything turned into mid -week
Shekhar further wrote in his post, “However, the turning point came in the mid -week. By Wednesday, the distributors had started removing the film from theaters, and were trying to bring a more commercial film instead. Then Thursday came. Something changed.” Shekhar Kapoor wrote, “I got a call that people have started coming. Till Friday, ticket houses were full. By Saturday, tickets started selling in black – the audience who were shying away from seeing it initially, now they are splashing to go in.”
The innocent was declared a hit declare
Shekhar further writes, “And the race to find new cinemas has started … and the innocent has been declared a hit … I don’t know what happened on Thursday? I don’t know what happened. What would happen if they do not come on Thursday? The distributors would leave other cinema too … and there is no innocent film that someone would watch.”
Shekhar further wrote, “Now, after so many years … when I am preparing to bring ‘innocent, the next-generation’ into production, the word ‘article film’ still persecutes me … and … what happened on Thursday? Did my (or film) luck change overnight?”
