ITR Filing: The season of filing income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 is going on. During this time, many taxpayers have informed about the mistakes in the Annual Information statement (AIS). In view of this, the Income Tax Department has issued guidance giving clarification on this.
This information is done in the first part
AIS is a very important document. This is a statement that includes all the necessary information under the Income Tax Act 1961. In this form, information related to taxpayers is in two parts. The first part contains name, date of birth, PAN card number, Aadhaar card number, mobile number, email ID, address, such general information. If there is a company instead of a person, then when its name, when was established, registration number etc. is known.
Record of full financial transaction in second part
The second part of the form holds a record of all taxpayer’s financial transactions such as bank interest, income from divident, mutual funds, real estate transactions and foreign income. If AIS and your filed ITR shows any kind of difference, then you may get notice, a fine or there may be a delay in getting the refund, so it is the advice of tax experts to cross it with Form 26AS and AIS before depositing ITR.

Update AIS in this way
Many taxpayers have received information about duplicate entry, misclasified income or wrong transaction in AIS. To solve this problem, the Income Tax Department has made the feedback process easier on AIS. If you see an wrong or incomplete entry on AIS, first log on to the income tax e-filing portal. Then go to the AIS section and click on the wrong entry made.
Choose the correct reason from the use of ‘Optional’ or ‘Add Feedback’ option such as the amount is wrong or it is not my transaction. Now deposit your feedback. The AIS is updated if feedback valid is found. With the help of the portal, you can check the status of your feedback whether it has been rejected or accepted.
