Fauja Singh, a 114 -year -old Marathon runner in the world, was given a final farewell with moist eyes in his native village Biaas Pind (Jalandhar) on Sunday. People from all over the country reached for this last darshan. Everyone from the elderly to the youth was staring at them with reverence, as if an era is being bid farewell.
On July 14, during the morning walk, an unknown vehicle hit Fauja Singh. He was admitted to the hospital after the accident, but he died during treatment. According to the police, the accused driver has been arrested and the investigation of the case is going on.
There were inspiration for millions
Recalling his father, Fauja Singh’s son Sukhjinder Singh said, “He was not just my father, inspiration for millions of people. He taught us that age never decides the destination.” He said, “I came to meet in March, he asked to walk together, he misses him a lot.”
Sukhjinder told that he started running at the age of 89 and kept running till his last time. We are proudly performing them the last rites, but the heart is heavy. “
Sukhjinder told that his father never left the morning walk, no matter what the weather is. “He used to say that keep running the body, otherwise he will stop himself.”
Fauja Singh made many records in his life. He participated in several international marathon including Toronto, London, New York. In 2012, he became part of the Olympic flashlight relay. He was known as ‘Turband Tornado’.
A large number of local people attended the tribute meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and other leaders paid tribute to Fauja Singh on social media.
