Mumbai train blast case: 12 of the accused were Kamal Ansari of Bihar, died in 2021, read full list

On the evening of 11 July 2006, the serial train blast in Mumbai shook the entire country. 189 people lost their lives in this blast. After 19 years, the Bombay High Court acquitted 12 accused. Five of these were sentenced to death by the trial court in the year 2015 and seven to life imprisonment. The prosecution had claimed that the accused were members of the banned ‘students Islamic Movement of India’ (SIMI).

Those who got death sentence

  • Kamal Ahmed Ansari: He died in 2021 during the pending hearing of the appeal at the age of 50. Ansari was a resident of Madhubani district of Bihar and was accused of training weapons in Pakistan. He was also accused of bombing in Matunga.
  • Mohammad Faisal Rahman Sheikh: 50 -year -old accused, resident of Meera Road in Thane district, was accused of being one of the main conspirators. According to the prosecution, he received money from Pakistan, made bombs and put a bomb in a train.
  • Ehtesham Siddiqui: 42-year-old Siddiqui was accused of recovering trains and carrying out the bomb blast in Meera-Bhayander.
  • Naveed Hussain Khan Rashid: Rashid, a resident of Secunderabad, used to work in a call center during the 44 -year -old explosion and was accused of making bombs and installing a bomb for a train in Bandra. He was arrested from Secunderabad itself.
  • Asif Khan Bashir Khan: 52 -year -old Khan was accused of helping to make bombs and bombs for explosion in Borivali. Civil engineer Khan, a resident of Jalgaon, was also accused of being a key member of Simi.

Those who are sentenced to life imprisonment

  • Tanveer Ahmed Ansari: 50 -year -old Ansari, a resident of Agripada in Mumbai, was convicted of going to terrorist camps in Pakistan and doing trains.
  • Mohammad Shafi: 46 -year -old Shafi was accused of running a hawala racket and raising funds from Pakistan for blasts.
  • Sheikh Mohammad Ali Alam: 55 -year -old Alam was accused of making bombs in his house in suburban Govandi with the help of Pakistanis who infiltrated India. He was also accused of being a member of SIMI.
  • Mohammad Sajid Ansari: 47 -year -old Ansari, a resident of Meera Road, was accused of buying timer for bombs and helping them. Ansari was also accused of giving shelter to two Pakistani nationals.
  • Muzammil Rahman Sheikh: The youngest accused in this case, 40 -year -old software engineer Sheikh was accused of training in Pakistan and raiking local trains. Sheikh’s brothers Faisal and Rahil are also accused in this case but were never caught. Both of them were allegedly the main conspirators of this conspiracy.
  • Suhail Mahmud Sheikh: 55 -year -old Sheikh was also accused of taking training in weapon in Pakistan and doing Reiki of the trains in which bombs were installed.
  • Jamir Rahman Sheikh: 50 -year -old Sheikh was accused of attending meetings to conspiracy and receiving training in Pakistan.
