The match was played between Australia and England on 23-28 July 1964, in which Australian captain Bob Simpson won the toss and decided to bat first.
Bob Simpson, along with Bill Laurie, landed on the field to start the Australian innings. Both batsmen shared the 201 run partnership for the first wicket.
Bill Lawry was dismissed for 106 runs in 313 balls. However, Simpson remained pegs at the other end. Bob Simpson shared a 219 -run partnership for the fifth wicket with Brian Booth (98) to bring the team beyond 600.
Simpson scored 311 runs, facing 743 balls. Simpson batted 762 minutes. During this time, a six and 23 fours came out of his bat. Thanks to Simpson’s brilliant batting, the team declared their first innings on a score of 656/8.
John Price took the most three wickets from the opposition team, while Fred Rumsey and Tom Carterit took two wickets each.
In response, England had lost the wicket of John Edrig (6) on the score of 15, but from here captain Ted Dexter took over the team by adding 111 runs for the second wicket with opener Geoff Boycott.
Geoff Boycott returned to the pavilion on a score of 58. The captain then shared a 246 -run partnership for the third wicket with Ken Barrington. Dexter was dismissed by 174 runs, while Barrington scored 256 runs.
