The exercise to remove Justice Yashwant Verma from the post has intensified. More than 200 MPs have given notice to remove them. It includes MPs of many parties. On July 21, on the first day of the monsoon session, notice of impeachment against him in both houses of Parliament was handed over to the presiding officers. The Lok Sabha Speaker can also announce a committee regarding this. There will be three members in the committee who will investigate in the case of Justice Yashwant Verma. In this, a judge of the Supreme Court, a Chief Justice of the High Court will be a reputed jurist. Let us know that even before Justice Yashwant Verma, there are many judges against whom impeachment was brought, but till now no judge has been removed from the post through impeachment, let’s know about them.

Justice V. Ramaswamy (1993): Supreme Court judge V. Ramaswamy was accused of financial irregularities. The impeachment motion was passed in the Rajya Sabha, but the proposal fell in the Lok Sabha. He is considered the first judge to face impeachment

Justice Saumitra Sen (2011): Calcutta High Court judge Justice Soumitra Sen passed an impeachment motion in the Rajya Sabha after allegations of misuse of money, but resigned before the matter was considered in the Lok Sabha.

Justice S.K. Gangele (2015): A impeachment motion was brought against allegations of sexual harassment on Justice SK Gangele, Judge of Madhya Pradesh High Court. An inquiry committee was constituted but he was convicted.

Justice JB Pardiwala (2015): A impeachment motion was also brought against the Gujarat High Court judge Justice JB Pardiwala. They were given impeachment notice for objectionable remarks on reservation, but the judge took the disputed remarks and the process stopped.

Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy (2017): A impeachment motion was brought in the Rajya Sabha against Justice CV Nagarjan Reddy, a judge of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana High Court, but it did not proceed due to some MPs withdrawing their signature.

Justice Deepak Mishra (2018): A impeachment motion was brought against former CJI Deepak Mishra of the Supreme Court, but it did not pass in Parliament. The Rajya Sabha Chairman rejected the proposal in the first phase.

What is the whole matter?
Please tell that on the night of 14 March 2025, there was a fire at Justice Verma’s government residence in Delhi. The personnel of the fire department, which were caught to extinguish the fire, were recovered from their house. However, many notes were also burnt in the fire. A video of the incident was also revealed in which bundles of notes were seen in the store room of the house. At that time Justice Yashwant Verma was a Justice of the Delhi High Court, later he was transferred to the Allahabad High Court.
