The Bihar government has taken another concrete step towards the goal of doubling the income of farmers. Now along with traditional farming, farmers will be able to earn well from the cultivation of spices. For this, the government has started the ‘Seed Masala Ki Yojana’, under which farmers will be given financial assistance for the cultivation of coriander, fenugreek, fennel, mangrala and celery.

Under this scheme, farmers in all 38 districts of the state will get 40 percent of the cost of 50,000 per hectare i.e. 20,000. This grant will be given in two installments. This scheme will not only increase the income of farmers, but will also inspire them towards spice crops, which always have demand in the market.

Who can take advantage of the scheme?
The benefit of this scheme will be available only to those farmers who have at least 0.25 acres (0.1 hectares) and a maximum of 5 acres (2 hectares) land. Farmers will have to submit certificates related to land ownership like revenue receipt, lineage or monopoly. Non-ray farmers can also take advantage of the scheme on the basis of monopoly. This monopoly should be in the prescribed format, which can be downloaded from the online portal.

How to apply?
First of all, farmers will have to register on DBT portal. After this, he will have to apply in the ‘Seed Masala Scheme’ by going to Horticulture.bihar.gov.in. Applications will be accepted on the basis of ‘first come first serve’.

What should be kept in mind?
The farmers will have to check the bank account and the details related to it in DBT on their own, so that the grant can be transferred directly to their account. Farmers will be selected under 78.537% in general category, 20% for Scheduled Castes and 1.463% for Scheduled Tribes. Along with this, participation of 30% women farmers in every category will also be ensured.

Where will you get seeds?
The seed will be supplied by the National Horticulture Research and Development Foundation, Patna and Bihar State Seed Corporation. While receiving the seed, the farmer will have to take a geo-tagged selfie, in which the concerned officers and suppliers also appear together, and upload it on the portal.

Why is this plan special?
Spices cultivation gives more profits than traditional crops. Also, there is less need for water and the crop is ready quickly. In such a situation, this scheme of Bihar government can prove to be ‘icing on gold’ for farmers.
