This news is disappointing for students dreaming of MBBS and PG medical courses in Delhi. Jamia Hamdard University has withdrawn all 150 MBBS and 49 PG medical seats for the academic session of 2025-26. This decision has come at a time when NEET counseling is going to start from July 21. This step has been taken due to economic disturbances and administrative disputes related to the Medical Institute ‘Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR)’.
The temporary seat matrix released by the National Medical Commission (NMC) shows zero seats for HimsR. HimsR is a medical college under Jamia Hamdard, which was established in 2012. In a letter sent to NMC on June 6, the registrar of Jamia Hamdard said that due to intervention from some private parties, the university is no longer able to control HimsR’s online portal and admission process. That is why the university had to separate itself from the recognition of MBBS and PG seats.
Vice Chancellor said- College is not following the rules
Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard Prof. Mohammad Afshar Alam said that he had instructed HimsR several times to follow the UGC guidelines, but the college management continuously ignored these rules. He also added that the university fully considers UGC guidelines, and keeping in mind the future of the students, positive results are now expected from the court. At present, new students will not be admitted.
Case of economic irregularities
At the root of the dispute, there are economic disturbances associated with HimsR and its associated HAH Centenary Hospital. According to the CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report, an amount of Rs 813 crore was transferred to the Hamdard Education Society from 2011 to 2023, which is a violation of UGC rules. The CAG has considered it a misuse of resources, which is against the interests of students and staff.

Now the support of the court
Jamia Hamdard University has approached the Delhi High Court against these incidents. The petition filed in the court states that his official website and admission documents have been misused by the third party. The court, after hearing in the presence of the Central Government’s lawyer and the officials of the Ministry of Health, ruled that no seat of HimsR will be included for counseling at present.
