Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world, which is followed by crores of people worldwide. This game has given the world great players like Sachin Tendulkar, Don Bradman, Viv Richards and Virat Kohli, but ever since the existence of cricket has come out, there has been a lot of dispute over some rules from time to time. At present, the subsidy rules have come in the discussion due to the injury of Rishabh Pant.

ICC’s subsidy rules say that if a player is injured, then another player can be called as a substitute instead, but he cannot batting or bowling. The player who comes as a substitute can only field, while the umpire can also handle the responsibility of wicketkeeping. In such a situation, there has been a ruckus about replacement and substitute rules. But there are many other rules which are often disputed.

Standard

Standarding is now known as non -strike run out. This rule says that if a non-strayer has gone far ahead of the crease before the ball is thrown, the bowling team can run out that non-strike batsman. A separate rule has been made in the Rule Book of the ICC, but they have been criticized many times by calling the incidents of standardDing inappropriate.

Call umpires in DRS

Due to the arrival of DRS in cricket, there has been a huge decrease in the decisions of the batsmen being wrong out. But the aspect of ‘umpires call’ associated with this rule often causes controversy. Suppose there was a LBW appeal against a batsman, but the umpire called him not-out. In the review taken by the bowling team, it is found that the ball was hitting the stumps, but less than 50 percent of the ball was seen from the stumps, in such a situation it is considered to be the final decision which was given by the umpire before DRS. Many times questions have been raised on the quality of accurate DRS.

Boundary catch

On hearing the name of the boundary catch, the final of the 2024 T20 World Cup is remembered, in which Suryakumar Yadav had a historic catch. But there was a fierce dispute over Michael Neser’s catch in the Big Bash League, due to which the ICC had to change the boundary catch rules. Under this new rule, a fielder can go outside the boundary and touch the ball only once while staying in the air. After this, he will have to come inside the ground and complete the catch. Such catches are often in discussion.
