A delegation of Muslim leaders met Governor Haribhau Bagde on Saturday (26) over the deteriorating condition of the Dargah complex of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Recently, a notice of possible danger warning was imposed in the dargah, after which the delegation has complained to the Governor.
He expressed concern over the safety of the devotees, accusing the Dargah Committee and CEO Bilal Khan of negligence in maintenance. The delegation strongly objected to the recent rains to the roof of the dargah and water from the main dome, damage to mosques and ignoring the administration.
What are the main allegations?
The delegation referred to some incidents that include- the roof of the dargah complex and the falling of ceiling, damage to three mosques, heavy leakage in the main dome, no action despite repeated warnings. Apart from this, the appointment of the Dargah Committee is pending for three years and now this ‘irresponsible’ notice issued by the CEO, which he has opposed.
What is the case of disputed notice?
In fact, on July 21, a digitally signed notice was issued by Nazim Mohammad Bilal Khan of the Dargah, warning of a possible threat from the old structures of the Dargah. The notice said that the administration will not be legally responsible in the event of any accident. This statement came at a time when preparations are going on for 814th Urs in Ajmer Sharif, in which millions of devotees come from abroad and abroad.
What happened to the governor?
The delegation met the Governor and demanded immediate investigation and action. Bagde assured him that he would summon the report from the District Magistrate of Ajmer in this whole matter. At the same time, the delegation also criticized the notice which was issued by the Dargah administration, called it ‘insensitive and irresponsible’.
