England captain Ben Stokes was angry at refusing to declare the innings by India. He said that the result of the match was fixed, so he did not want to put his top bowlers at risk.

Stokes offered to declare the fourth Test a draw during the final drinks break but, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar had reached close to their centuries, so India forced England to bowl until both of them scored their respective centuries. After this, Stokes gave Harry Brook and Joe Root the responsibility of bowling, which gave comfort to his fast bowlers.

After the match, Stokes said, “All the hard work was done by India and the result turned out to be only one. I was not going to put any of my bowler at risk, Dosi had thrown a lot of overs, his body was tired. I was not going to risk any of my main bowlers.”

England captain Ben Stokes scored a century in the match and took 5 wickets in India’s first innings. He was adjudged Player of the Match.

India made a strong comeback after losing the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudarshan in the first over of the second innings. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill shared an unbeaten partnership of 188 for the third wicket and Jadeja-Sundar for the fifth wicket to draw the match. Rahul scored 90, Gill 103, Jadeja scored an unbeaten 107 and Sundar scored an unbeaten 101 runs.

Stokes said, “They have to give a lot of credit for the way Washington and Jadeja played. We did everything to dismiss them, but they have been under pressure. So far it has been a ups and down series, in which we have been attacking each other, thanks to the way India has continued to struggle.”
